2019 AHCC Scholarships
 
The Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce is providing 3 types of scholarships for the 2019 Education Excellence Celebration. The Scholarships are designed to provide recognition for educational achievement and award leadership qualities to graduating Hispanic high school seniors that will be attending an institution of higher learning or trade school; and students currently enrolled in an institution of higher education or non-traditional adults looking to obtain a degree or certificate. The Scholarship committee will consider the educational achievements, leadership qualities, letters or recommendation, written essays and strong financial need. 

2019 AHCC Scholarship - $1,000 award

Scholarship Objective: to provide recognition for educational achievement and leadership qualities to graduating Hispanic high school seniors that will be attending an institution of higher learning.

Eligibility:
Hispanic seniors graduating in the current school year and planning to enroll in an institution of higher learning the full 2019-20 academic year. NM residents with a 2.5 GPA or higher; all students regardless of documentation status are eligible.

Scholarship Committee considerations:
educational achievement, leadership qualities, letters of recommendation, written essay, and strong financial need.


2019 Opportunity Scholarship - $1,000 award

Scholarship Objective: for individuals who earned their high school diploma, GED or high school equivalency at least one year ago and that demonstrate significant financial need and desire for post-secondary education in pursuit of career goals.

Eligibility:
Individuals 19 or older in NM who earned a high school diploma, GED or high school equivalency on or before September 2018. Demonstrate significant financial need and be enrolled or planning to enroll in an institution of higher education for academic year 2019-20; all students regardless of documentation status are eligible.

Scholarship Committee considerations:
financial need, letter of recommendation, written essay.


2019 THRIVE Multi-year Scholarship Initiative

Scholarship Objective: to provide Multi-year scholarships annually to see students through graduation beginning Fall 2019. Provide mentoring through either CNM or UNM and connect students to the business community through AHCC membership for real world experience and opportunities.

Eligibility:
First-semester, first-year enrollees, regardless of age or enrollment in 2-year, 4-year, or CTE program. Eligibility for the standard AHCC and Opportunity Scholarships applies, with the EXCEPTION that a minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Students must be enrolled at UNM for a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester for the entire 4 year time period of the program; CNM for 12 credit hours for degree or certificate completion.

To complete your application, you must also: 
Upload a 3 minute video explaining your education goals, career objective and plans for giving back to New Mexico.  Creativity is encouraged but you must appear in the video and talk form at least half of the video.  Also, please keep to the time limit requirement.

Scholarship Continuation considerations:
An unofficial transcript, maintain a minimum 2.27 GPA, a thank you letter outlining accomplishments and goals to share with donor, and attendance and participation in the annual AHCC-sponsored coaching/networking event for program participants.  


Before you start your application:

You will be prompted to register an account.  Once you have completed this step, you should be prepared with the following:

  • Name of person to serve as your recommender.
  • Email of recommender.
  • Things to consider when choosing a recommender:
    • Please give the person plenty of time to complete the recommendation letter.
    • Make sure you ask the person first if they will serve as a recommender.
    • The person giving you a letter of recommendation should be a teacher, school counselor, school official or community member who is not related to you.
    • The person giving you a letter should be able to talk about your academic accomplishments, your potential in completing a degree or certificate program, your passion for education beyond high school and your overall character.

Please note that you should submit this information accurately and before you begin the application as the recommender will be sent an email with instructions to upload your letter.
